A church has been on the site since before 1428 and over the centuries St Michael-le-Belfry was noted for being one of York’s few prosperous parishes – largely, you suspect, because of its proximity to the Minster.

Today it plays host on Sundays to an Evangelical Rock Church; a noisy younger sibling to its decidedly establishment neighbour across the road.
